Operation Christmas Child
$1,891,858 needed in 2008
A $150,000 matching grant has been offered by The Maclellan Foundation, Chattanooga, TN, and any gift to our partnership with OCC referencing this grant will be doubled - up to $150,000! We praise and thank the Lord for the generous spirit of The Maclellan Foundation and their interest in helping us reach out to needy childen around the world. A gift of any amount is welcomed.
Since 1993, Samaritan's Purse has delivered joy to millions of children in the form of a simple shoebox filled with candy, school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and more. This effective ministry has touched the lives of children in over 100 countries worldwide. The boxes, distributed through local churches, provide the springboard for the gospel of Jesus Christ to be shared in a unique way.
A strategic partnership between Child Evangelism Fellowship, Samaritan's Purse, and The Mailbox Club has dramatically leveraged the strengths of each ministry to provide a clear Gospel presentation and year-round follow-up through locally administered Bible correspondence courses. The OCC Discipleship Program began as a follow-up effort in 1999, and 75 of those precious children made a profession of faith in Christ. In recent years, hundreds of thousands of children are reached annually by enrolling in Bible courses. This series of ten lessons teaches them about God and gives the local churches a valuable outreach tool.
The year 2008 distribution program is now in progress as OCC distributes shoebox gifts to needy children. The follow-up OCC Discipleship Program involves 67 countries this year utilizing local networks and staff organized by The Mailbox Club and Child Evangelism Fellowship. About 2 million children will be offered Mailbox Club lessons as part of the shoebox distributions. Based on past response rates, we expect about 75% of these children to enroll in the Bible courses. The budget to print lessons and administer the follow-up program in the 67 countries is $1.892 million. That is only a $1.26 per enrolled child.
Mailbox Club Student Sponsors
$115,895 Needed In 2008
In 2007 we mailed out 89,595 lessons free-of-charge to over 5,275 active students across the United States. It was a fruitful outreach since 524 students indicated that they had received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior through taking the lessons! 4,799 certificates were awarded for successfully completing a course.
In early 2001, The Mailbox Club implemented the computer based student tracking system that Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) Mailbox Club is now using in Missouri. This high-tech system allows us to manage student records more efficiently and expand the number of students to whom we can minister. Student addresses can be merged with CASS Certified mailing software so our mailings qualify for USPS automation rate discounts. This capability returns a savings of about 7 cents per mail piece. We would like to offer free ""follow-up"" to other outreach children's ministries and mission agencies to help them in their work with children through year-round discipleship.
With God's help, we would like to significantly increase the number of students enrolled in courses through our local Mailbox Club here in Valdosta, GA. That's about $22/year/student to send lessons in the USA free of charge! Your gift matters!
Operation Africa
$741,341 needed in 2008
God continues to open tremendous doors to work with indigenous missionaries in Africa and the Middle East. We are trusting Him for the printing of over 8.6 million Mailbox Club Bible lessons in 2008 to reach at least 909,000 tender children, young people, and adults in 36 countries of this vast continent. That is $.82 per child! Much of this work is in Muslim countries, but God has enabled us to work with 22 other ministries in these countries to print and facilitate the distribution of Bible lessons. In the face of the AIDS pandemic, famine, civil war, genocide, and the continual advance of Islam, this is a "great and effectual" door that has been opened, and we earnestly request your prayers for us, that the Word of the Lord would have "free course and be glorified."
Operation India
$31,900 needed in 2008
India is the largest country in which we work with Operation Christmas Child each year. In 2008, we will be providing Bible lessons to about 900,000 children through the gift-filled shoeboxes. The shoeboxes donated from people who live in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida are going to India this year. Beyond our work with OCC in India, there are other ministries who use our Bible lessons and we are seeking to reach about 55,000 children with Explorers 1 in eleven different languages. This is a unique opportunity that requires funding apart from our work with OCC, costing us about $.58 per child for printing, distributing, recruiting and training godly mentors to work with these improvished children. If you desire to contribute to this initiative, please indicate Operation India for proper accounting.
