Darrell & Robin Weiland

Darrrell WeilandDarrell was blessed to have grown up in a Christian home with a legacy of Christian service. His grandparents were missionaries in Brazil where they started an orphanage in the 1950’s. In early 1961, Darrell’s parents were called to go to Brazil along with four other families to help plant a church among the people who lived in the jungle town of Xiambre in the state of Parana, Brazil. One of the first things his parents did was to start a Bible Club for the children in the area. The Bible club was held on Sunday afternoon after church. Many children came to hear the Bible stories, sing songs, and play the various games that Darrell’s father came up with. It was during one of these meetings when Darrell’s father shared the gospel. The Holy Spirit did His work of conviction and Darrell recognized his need for forgiveness of his sins and a desire to be a child of God. His family remained in Brazil until the illness of his grandparents required them to come back to the states.

After coming back to the United States, Darrell grew up in Southern California, attended Sunday School, Church, VBS, Jet Cadets, and eventually Youth group. Later in 1977, he met his wife – Robin. Robin had been led to the Lord through a Bible study that Darrell’s mother had with her. They were married in Huntington Beach, CA in November of 1978 and then moved North to Paradise, California where they bought a Natural Food store. They quickly became active at the Calvary Chapel, teaching Sunday School and serving in a variety of areas within the church. God blessed them with two children – Tiffany and Joshua. In 1982, they sold the store and moved to Vacaville, California where Darrell began a new job with a local grocery chain. They began attending Valley Evangelical Free Church. Shortly after, Darrell and Robin began serving in a variety of capacities at Valley Church – Teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and serving in the Awana Club program as the Awana Commanders. God blessed and the Club grew dramatically.   In 1986, Darrell & Robin began serving on the Board of the Awana Missionary for the area.

A few years later, God began tugging at their hearts regarding full-time Christian service and they began the process to be approved as Awana Missionaries. In 1992 they were approved and sent to Western Washington. Again God blessed their ministry as they spoke in churches and clubs throughout their assigned territory – training leaders and sharing the gospel with children. They held training conferences, athletic events, and conducted Jr. High & High School Camps that ministered to thousands of leaders and children.   In 2001, Darrell was asked to serve on Staff as the Regional Ministries Director for the North Western United States – recruiting, training, and overseeing the Awana Missionaries.   Later, Awana began going through some changes in direction which resulted in Darrell’s leaving Awana.

Venture Club LogoNow through the Mailbox club, a new midweek ministry is being developed which will provide churches with low-cost, reproducible materials that are centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ, teach basic Bible doctrines, include scripture memory, and Bible scripture readings. The new program is in development and is called – Venture Clubs.  Darrell is now serving as the faith support missionary for Washington, Oregon, and California.
